ACCESSORIES

OTHER
•Knapsacks / backpacks are extremely useful & easy to pack among bikes
•Cash donations to help fund the transportation costs of the bikes
Typically the bikes are delivered to rural communities in Africa where paved roads are limited. As such, our preference is for bikes with wide tires (mountain and hybrid bikes). For more information please see “What we do not accept” section below.
•Adult sized MOUNTAIN bikes (24” and 26” wheels with frames sizes of 15” and up) in working condition, with no major rust on the frame (flat tires are ok). Hybrid bikes with wide tires are also suitable.
Not sure if your bike is suitable? send us a picture at info@B4HOttawa.org

What we DO NOT collect
•No bikes other than adult-sized mountain / hybrid bikes - this is very specific to the 2011 campaign. We may be able to accept other bikes in the future depending on the destination community’s needs
•No road bikes, ten-speeds, tricycles, old-style
•No specialty bikes: tricycles, tandems, etc
•No children’s bikes
•No frames without wheels - complete bikes only (Experience shows that frames alone aren’t very useful. The spare parts required to build them up are in high demand to repair other bikes, and building up with new spare parts is not cost effective. Frames therefore tend to become junk.)
•No bikes with major rust on the frame
•No old broken/worn tools and imperial sized spanners/wrenches
•No child carriers of any type (space constraint)
•No baskets (space constraint and more appropriate baskets are locally made and purchased at destination)
•No helmets
